Los Nogales Nursery

More than just a place to buy plants, Los Nogales Nursery is a resource grounded in both ecology and community. Named for the endemic but threatened Juglans californica (Southern California black walnut), which grows naturally on the site, the nursery serves as a foundational space to feature native plants that support local bird habitats, right in the heart of Los Angeles.

We offer a curated selection of the Theodore Payne Foundation’s most beloved California native plants, including many grown from local seed gathered in local watersheds.

A Partnership Between Audubon Center at Debs Park
& Theodore Payne Foundation

As collaborators, we will host workshops, gardening and propagation classes, bird and native plant ID events, and volunteer days. We hope Los Nogales becomes a neighborhood hub for habitat restoration, connection, and care.

The Audubon Center at Debs Park inspires people to experience, understand, and care for the local natural world. It serves as a community hub for environmental justice and advocacy work in Los Angeles and across the Audubon network through its holistic, people-focused approach to conservation work.

Theodore Payne Foundation inspires and educates Southern Californians about the beauty and ecological benefits of California native plant landscapes. Our 22-acre Sun Valley site is home to a retail nursery, demonstration gardens, an education center, gift shop, and hiking trail. Admission is free and the grounds are open to the public year-round.
