Co-created by the 2021 Sumbios cohort, this 40-page workbook braids together prose, practices, and playlists to nurture creative acts in service of climate action.

Loam and Curam developed Sumbios as an experimental container for supporting creative community during the COVID-19 global health pandemic. Over the course of six weeks in early 2021, their collective of interdisciplinary artists gathered together to reflect on everything from growing interdependence to making art on the cusp of collapse. This workbook is an extension of what they learned as a group - a way to share with you all the love, care, and sense of connection that emerged within their container. This book is intended as a self-guided experience, a design-your-own journey that has been developed as a gift to you by the Sumbios cohort.

Please note: on page 16 of the workbook, a quote on love by M. Scott Peck was misattributed to bell hooks. Although they first encountered this definition of love in bell hooks' "All About Love", M. Scott Peck (echoing Erich Fromm) first wrote of love as "the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth."

    About Loam:
Loam is a movement of compassionate and creative activists who strive to support one another as they find their footing in the heart of the climate crisis. Their community is passionate about seeding regeneration, resilience, and joy through embodied experiences that inspire the cultivation of sustainable activist practices, foster intersectionality across movements, and help each one of us to heal our connection to our earth. From publishing vibrant print publications to facilitating immersive workshops, Loam's constellation of creatives is committed to building a better world through arts-as-activism.
